Tickets are now on sale for Columbia: The Woman Who Was America, a chalk talk presented by Benjamin Ragland. You can pick them up at the Gallery starting today, or grab them right here on our website.
Before Uncle Sam, before the Statue of Liberty, there was Columbia. So who was she? Columbia showed up in paintings, poems, and songs as the living symbol of the United States — a woman draped in stars and stripes, torch in hand, standing in for everything our fledgling nation aspired to be. She was everywhere for a long time, and then beginning in the 1930s, she... wasn't. This chalk talk, presented in Benny's signature style, is a chance to meet Columbia again and think about what she meant and what she still might be. Claim your seats before they're gone!
Tickets: $40 ($35 for Art League members)
Doors open at 5:30 pm for refreshments
The talk starts at 6:00 pm
